Carpe Tenebrum, a black metal project, was founded in Norway by Jamie Stinson, better known as Astennu. Stinson began his musical journey with the release of Majestic Nothingness (1997). The following year, Stian Arnesen, also known as Nagash, joined the project for vocals on their second album, Mirrored Hate Painting (1999). In 2002, Carpe Tenebrum released their third and final album, Dreaded Chaotic Reign, with Astennu handling all instruments and vocals. The project remained largely inactive following the release.
