Sérgio de Barros Godinho, born on August 31, 1945, in Porto, Portugal, is a Portuguese singer-songwriter, composer, actor, poet, and author. At the age of 20, he left Portugal to avoid conscription for the Portuguese Colonial War and studied in Geneva. He later moved to Paris, where he worked as a stage actor in the musical Hair and began his music career, composing and recording with José Mário Branco in 1971. His first release was the EP Romance de um Dia na Estrada (1971), followed by his debut album Os Sobreviventes (1972). He lived in Canada from 1972 to 1974, returning to Portugal in September 1974, some months after the Carnation Revolution. He subsequently released the albums À Queima-Roupa (1974) and De Pequenino Se Torce O Destino (1976). He composed the soundtrack for the film Kilas, o Mau da Fita (1980) and released the award-winning album Canto da Boca (1981).
