Ransom Wilson, born on October 25, 1951 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is an American flutist, conductor, and educator. He studied at The Juilliard School, graduating in 1973, and then spent a year studying under Jean-Pierre Rampal in Paris. His official debut concert took place in New York City in 1976. Wilson signed an exclusive recording contract with Angel/EMI soon after and began performing worldwide. His discography includes notable albums like Flute Music By Les Six (1990) and Mozart: Flute Sonatas (1994). Wilson's honors include the New York Times Foundation Alabama Prize in 1988, and an induction into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1993.
