Modey Lemon, an American garage‑rock group originating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formed in 1999 when guitarist Phil Boyd and drummer Paul Quattrone, then University of Pittsburgh students, joined forces with Dean Swagger’s side project; the band’s early performances included a Halloween set and a live broadcast on WPTS 92.1 FM, which later appeared on their demo House on the Hill and the 2002 self‑titled release Modey Lemon. The first breakthrough came with the 2004 EPs Predator and Crows. The 2003 album Thunder & Lightning was released through In the Red Records and later licensed by Mute Records for the UK and Europe; the single "Crows" entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 75 and "Sleepwalkers" peaked at Number 71. In 2005 the band released The Curious City on Birdman/Mute, added Jason Kirker on guitar and Moog, and embarked on extensive tours with acts such as The White Stripes, Dinosaur Jr., and Arctic Monkeys, while playing festivals including Glastonbury and Transmusicales. The 2008 album Season of Sweets featured the track "Become a Monk" on the Tony Hawk: Ride soundtrack, and the group issued the single "Wandering Eye b/w Cheetahs for Chariots" in 2010 before entering an indefinite hiatus; their first two albums were reissued on vinyl in 2015 by A‑F Records, Mind Cure Records, and Omentum Records.
