David Hill (born 13 May 1957 in Carlisle, Cumberland) is a British choral conductor and organist. Educated at Chetham's School of Music and as an Organ Scholar at St John's College, Cambridge under George Guest, David Hill spent two years from 1980 as Sub-Organist at Durham Cathedral before becoming Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral (1982–1987) and then at Winchester Cathedral (1987–2002). David Hill returned to St John's as Director of Music (2003–2007) and later assumed the role of Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers from September 2007 until 2017, while also directing The Bach Choir from 1998 and holding positions with the Southern Sinfonia, Leeds Philharmonic Society, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In July 2013 David Hill was appointed Professor Adjunct of Choral Conducting and Principal Conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. His discography includes recordings such as Bairstow: Choral Music, The English Orpheus by John Blow, and settings by Jean Langlais and Palestrina, among many other recordings of choral and organ repertoire. David Hill was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to music and serves as President of the Incorporated Association of Organists.
