Disciples of Christ were an American Christian rap group from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The core members, Alton Hood and Kelvin Harvey, met Michael Brown at a Canton church after moving to the Northeast Ohio area. After converting to Christianity, they began performing raps and beat-boxing at parties. In 1990, their demo caught the attention of Star Song Records, leading to their debut album So How Ya Livin'? in 1991. That same year, Alton Hood Jr. made a guest rap appearance on Whitecross's album In the Kingdom (1991). In 1993, they released Pullin' No Punches and collaborated with Bride on "God Gave Rock 'n Roll to You". Their third album, Righteous Funk, was released in 1994 and featured funk legends Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, and Fred Wesley. The album earned them a Grammy nomination.
