Gorki was a Belgian rock group from Ghent, originally formed in 1989 under the name Gorky. The initial lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Luc de Vos, bassist Wout de Schutter, and drummer Geert Bonne. In 1990, they finished third in Humo's Rock Rally. Their breakthrough came with the single “Anja” (1991), which was followed by their self-titled debut studio album, Gorky (1992), and the album Boterhammen (1992). This debut featured the single “Soms Vraagt een Mens Zich Af” and its B-side “Mia”, which became a major hit. Three of their songs, which include “Lieve Kleine Piranha” (1992), “Schaduw in de Schemering” (2004), and “Joerie” (2006), reached Number 1 on the Studio Brussel alternative hitlist De Afrekening. They released several albums under various record labels, including Virgin Records and Sony Music Entertainment, before signing with PIAS in 2000 to release albums such as Eindelijk Vakantie! (2000), Plan B (2004), and Homo Erectus (2006). Luc de Vos passed away on November 29, 2014, marking the end of the group.
