Ian Hobson, born in 1952, in Wolverhampton, England, is a British pianist and conductor. He studied at King Henry VIII School, Coventry, the Royal Academy of Music, Magdalene College, Cambridge, and Yale University. Hobson made his London debut in 1979 and his United States debut in 1983. His career also saw him win first prize in the 1981 Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. Throughout his career, he has performed extensively with various orchestras and frequently conducted from the keyboard. His repertoire spanned from works by Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Paderewski. Notable recordings include Ignaz Moscheles, Piano Concerto No 5 in C Major, Op 87 Et No 3 in G Minor, Op 60 (2001) and Suite and Serious (2007). He also served as a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and Florida State University.
