Kitty Hoff is a German singer, musician, and composer whose style she describes as "chanson jazz with German lyrics." She grew up in the Münsterland region and received early piano and violin lessons before studying musical theatre at the Theater an der Wien and the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. After moving to Berlin in 2000, she founded the band Kitty Hoff & Forêt-Noire in 2004 and secured a recording contract with Virgin/EMI, which released their debut album Rauschen in 2005, followed by Blick Ins Tal (2007). Hoff has received several awards, including the Lale Andersen Prize in 2008. The group later signed with Blue Note Records and released Zuhause (2009), followed by Curiose Geschichten (2013).
