Carl Petter Opsahl, born Carl Opsahl on May 31, 1964 in Oslo, Norway, is a priest, jazz musician, and journalist. Opsahl's early involvement in music included establishing the Caledonia Jazzband in 1982 and touring in New Orleans in 1983, where he later settled and played with the All Star Brass Band starting in 1986. He founded Chateau Neuf Spelemannslag (1992–2002) and Soulfood (formerly Creole Quartet). Opsahl released his debut solo album Indigodalen in 2001, featuring self-composed traditional folk music, with contributions from Tord Gustavsen, Åsmund Reistad, Ingar Zach, and Eline Monrad Vistven. This was followed by Improvisions (2005), a melodic free jazz recording, and Love, The Blues (2008) with Tord Gustavsen and Jon Christensen. Opsahl was central to support measures for New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
