Girl was an English glam metal band formed in London in 1979 by vocalist Phil Lewis, guitarists Gerry Laffy and Phil Collen, drummer Jonathon Trevisick (later replaced by Dave Gaynor), and bassist Mark Megary (subsequently replaced by Simon Laffy). The group was first discovered and managed by Jon Lindsay, before signing with Jet Records. In 1980 the band recorded "Hollywood Tease", which reached number 50 on the UK Singles Chart. That same year the band issued its debut album Sheer Greed, which peaked at number 33 on the UK Albums Chart, and its profile was raised by tours with the Pat Travers Band and UFO amid the new wave of British heavy metal explosion. In 1981 drummer Dave Gaynor departed and was succeeded by Pete Barnacle, who was later replaced by Bryson Graham during the recording of the second album. Wasted Youth was issued in 1982, reaching number 92 on the UK chart, but the band split up the same year after Phil Collen left to join Def Leppard and Pete Bonas replaced him. Subsequent releases include the compilation My Number: The Anthology (2001) and live recordings from the early 1980s, while former members pursued further careers: Phil Lewis joined The London Cowboys, Airrace, and L.A. Guns; Gerry and Simon Laffy later played in Sheer Greed; and Phil Collen and Simon Laffy joined Man Raze.
