Thergothon was a Finnish funeral doom metal band from Kaarina, Finland, formed in 1990 by vocalist Niko Sirkiä, drummer Jori Sjöroos, and guitarist Mikko Ruotsalainen. The group initially started as a death metal band but soon transitioned to doom metal. In early 1991, Sami Kaveri joined as a second guitarist, and the group released its first official demo, Fhtagn nagh Yog-Sothoth (1991). Thergothon's sound was characterized by slow tempos, deep death grunts, and sparse lead guitar melodies, with lyricism heavily influenced by H. P. Lovecraft. The band disbanded in the spring of 1993 before the release of its debut studio album, Stream from the Heavens, in 1994. Despite initial neglect by the music press, the album eventually sold several thousand copies worldwide.
