Lao Che, a Polish crossover band, was formed in 1999 in Płock by former members of Koli. The group's music combined various genres, including alternative rock, ska, ambient, folk, reggae, and electronic music. Their debut album, Gusła, was released in January 2002 through S.P. Records. The band's breakthrough came with the concept album Powstanie Warszawskie (2005), devoted to the 1944 Warsaw Uprising and incorporating historical recordings, poetry, and musical references. The album brought Lao Che national recognition and was voted Album of the Year by listeners of Polish Radio Program III. Subsequent releases included Gospel (2008), Prąd stały / Prąd zmienny (2010), and Soundtrack (2012). Their album Dzieciom (2015) was certified platinum in Poland for sales exceeding 30,000 copies. Lao Che released their seventh studio album, Wiedza o społeczeństwie, in 2018, which was also certified platinum. After more than two decades of activity, the group announced the suspension of its career in 2019 and concluded its farewell period in 2021.
