The Orchids is a Scottish band from Penilee, Glasgow, formed in 1985. The group initially consisted of the vocalists James Hackett and Pauline Hynds Bari, guitarist John Scally, drummer Chris Quinn, guitarist Matthew Drummond, and bassist James Moody. Their producer, Ian Carmichael, also frequently contributed keyboards. Their early releases include the singles “I've Got a Habit” (1988) and “Underneath the Window, Underneath the Sink” (1988). The group released its debut album Lyceum in 1989, followed by Unholy Soul in 1991, and Striving for the Lazy Perfection in 1994 on Sarah Records. In 1993, Moody left the band, and Ronnie Borland took over on bass. Following a hiatus, the members reformed in 2004 and released Good to Be a Stranger (2007). Subsequent albums include The Lost Star (2010), Beatitude#9 (2014), and Dreaming Kind, which was released on September 2, 2022. Notable singles from this period include “She's My Girl” (2010) and “The Way That She Moves” (2011).
