Capilla Flamenca was a Belgian vocal and instrumental ensemble specializing in Renaissance music, particularly the Franco-Flemish repertoire around 1500. Founded in 1979 by Dirk Snellings and Herman Baeten, the group's core consisted of Marnix De Cat, Tore Tom Denys, Lieven Termont, and Snellings, with additional musicians incorporated based on the repertoire. Named after the famous chapel formed by Charles I of Spain, Capilla Flamenca released their debut album, Basilica Concerten, in 1987. Throughout their career, they produced numerous recordings, including collaborations such as Viva L'Amore (1998) with the Flanders Recorder Quartet and Resonanzen 2001 (2001) with other artists. Other notable releases include Oh Flanders Free (1996) and their final album, 12 x 12 - A Musical Zodiac (2012). Dirk Snellings served as the artistic director until November 2013, and died in 2014, leading to the group's disbandment shortly after.
