Misha Dichter was born on September 27, 1945, in Shanghai to Polish-Jewish parents who had fled during World War II, and is an American pianist. He moved with his family to Los Angeles at two years old and began studying piano under Aube Tzerko. He continued his studies at Juilliard School, where he studied with Rosina Lhévinne. In 1966, he won the silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Following this achievement, he performed "Piano Concerto No. 1" by Tchaikovsky at Tanglewood and subsequently with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic in 1968, performed the same concerto. His contributions to classical music earned him the Grand Prix International Du Disque Liszt in 1998 for his recording of Liszt’s piano transcriptions. He was inducted as a National Patron of Delta Omicron, an international professional music fraternity, on April 13, 1999.
