Brenda Nokuzola Fassie, also known as Brenda Fassie, was born on November 3, 1964, in Langa, Cape Town, South Africa, and was a pop singer. At age four, she formed her first group, The Tiny Tots, and began performing for tourists with the help of her pianist mother. In 1981, she moved to Soweto and joined the group Joy before forming Brenda and The Big Dudes in 1983, releasing their debut album Weekend Special. Her career saw significant milestones, including the release of Memeza in 1998, which became the best-selling album that year in South Africa. Her notable songs include "Too Late for Mama" and "Vul'indlela". She was recognized as a cultural icon, earning the nickname The Madonna of the Townships from Time Magazine in 2001. She passed away on May 9, 2004, at age 39 due to an asthma attack.
