Pockets wurde Mitte der 1970er Jahre in Baltimore, Maryland, gegründet und war eine Soul- und R&B-Band, die vor allem durch ihre 1978er Hit-Single "Come Go with Me" bekannt wurde . Ursprünglich ein Septett, nahm die Band 1975 Demos in den Sheffield Studios auf. Zu dieser Zeit zeigten die Plattenfirmen wenig Interesse, da das Repertoire der Gruppe nur aus vier Eigenkompositionen und einer Fülle von Coverversionen bestand. Der Keyboarder und Sänger Albert McKinney wollte weitermachen und kontaktierte John Mackey von den Baltimore Colts, der in der Nachbarschaft von Verdine White von Earth, Wind & Fire wohnte. Verdine White war von dem Demo der Band beeindruckt, aber bevor sie weitermachten, schlug er vor, den Sänger Larry Jacobs in das Line-up aufzunehmen. Mit Jacobs als Frontmann unterschrieben die Pockets bei Columbia und nahmen 1977 ihr Debütalbum Come Go with Us auf. " Come Go with Me" wurde als Single veröffentlicht und stieg bis auf Platz 17 der Billboard R&B Singles Chart. Das Album erreichte auch Platz 17 der R&B-Album-Charts. Ihr nächstes Album, Take It On Up (1978), wurde von Maurice White und Verdine White von EWF produziert. Das Album und der Titelsong waren Hits, erreichten jedoch nie die Top 20. Ihr drittes Album, So Delicious (1979), erreichte Platz 43 der R&B-Album-Charts, obwohl der Titelsong die R&B Top 40 Singles-Charts erreichte. Aufgrund des ausbleibenden Chart-Erfolgs und der Tatsache, dass sich die Musikindustrie in eine andere musikalische Richtung bewegte, trennte sich die Band in den 1980er Jahren. Einige der Mitglieder kamen wieder zusammen und tourten 2016 und 2017.
