Dumptruck was formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1983 by Seth Tiven and Kirk Swan. The duo’s early work, recorded with drummers Mark Mulcahy and James Clement, yielded the debut album D Is For Dumptruck on Incas Records, which received critical praise and an A− from Robert Christgau. In 1986, the band released Positively Dumptruck through Big Time Records, earning the Best Independent Album Award at the Boston Music Awards. After a legal dispute with the label, the group disbanded in 1991 but reformed later in Texas, with Tiven and Austin-based musicians, releasing Terminal (1998), Lemmings Travel to the Sea (2001), and Wrecked in 2018.
