The Ocean Blue, an American indie band formed in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 1986, consisted of David Schelzel on vocals and guitar, Steve Lau on keyboards and saxophone, Bobby Mittan on bass, and Rob Minnig on drums. The members met in high school and began recording demos. The Ocean Blue signed with Sire Records in 1988 while still in high school, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1989. Produced by John Porter and Mark Opitz, the album featured the hit singles "Between Something and Nothing" and "Drifting, Falling", which peaked at number 2 and number 10 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, respectively. The band toured extensively, including with the Mighty Lemon Drops and John Wesley Harding, in the U.S. and Canada. Notable achievements include contributing songs to Martin Scorsese's 1994 film Naked in New York.
