Jonny Jakobsen, born 17 November 1963 in Malmö, Sweden, is a Danish-Swedish former Eurodance singer who gained international attention under the fictitious stage name Dr. Bombay. After a brief stint as a country-style performer called Johnny Moonshine, releasing the 1995 album Johnny Moonshine & The Troubled Water Band, it was the 1998 creation of the character Dr. Bombay that marked his breakthrough. The debut album Rice & Curry (1998) produced singles such as "Rice & Curry", "Calcutta (Taxi Taxi Taxi)", and "S.O.S. (The Tiger Took My Family)", with "Calcutta (Taxi Taxi Taxi)"earning platinum certifications in Norway and Sweden and "S.O.S. (The Tiger Took My Family)" earning gold in Norway and platinum in Sweden. Jakobsen later expanded the concept with albums under the personas Dr. MacDoo and Carlito, collaborating with producer Robert Uhlmann, known for his work with Smile.dk. In 2018 he commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Dr. Bombay persona with the single "Stockholm to Bombay", which received a music video release the following year. Jakobsen's work has appeared in several video game soundtracks, including entries in the Beatmania IIDXand Samba de Amigo series.
