Marvin & Johnny was an American doo-wop and rhythm and blues duo active during the 1950s. The group consisted of Marvin Phillips and Emory "Johnny" Perry, who first performed together in Los Angeles after meeting as saxophonists in the Richard Lewis Band. They became best known for the 1954 hit "Cherry Pie," released on Modern Records, which became an early doo-wop classic and their signature recording. Although later singles such as "Day In-Day Out," "Kiss Me," and "Little Honey" failed to match its success, the duo played an important role in the transition from West Coast jump blues to rhythm and blues. The pair split in 1955, but Phillips continued recording under the Marvin & Johnny name with different partners before launching a solo career as Long Tall Marvin. Perry died in 2011.
