Pekka Airaksinen, born on August 21, 1945, in Helsinki, Finland, was a Finnish electronic music composer. In the 1960s, he formed his first group, The Sperm, which blended avant-garde music with free jazz and psychedelic pop. The band's performances often included controversial art pieces that led to legal issues for some members. Following the disbandment of The Sperm in the early 1970s, Airaksinen turned towards Buddhism and temporarily ceased musical activities. He returned to music in the mid-1980s with the album Buddhas Of Golden Light, which combined free jazz with electronic percussion from a Roland TR-808 drum machine. In the 1990s, he founded the label Dharmakustannus, releasing numerous albums that spanned genres including new age, ambient, house, and jazz. Airaksinen died on May 6, 2019.
