Transjoik, originally named Frode Fjellheim Jazzjoik Ensemble, was founded in 1992 in Trondheim, Norway by Frode Fjellheim. The band initially gained attention for their unique blend of Sámi music with ambient electronic, techno, and trance elements, often incorporating yoiking—a traditional form of Sámi vocalization. Their debut album Saajve Dance was released in 1994 under the label Iđut. In 2000, Transjoik released their album Meavraa. The band's work has been recognized internationally, winning the Liet International award in the Netherlands for “Mijjajaa” in 2003.
