SoulHat, a rock band from Texas, formed in 1990 around Kevin McKinney, Bill Cassis, and Brian Walsh. Barry E. "Frosty" Smith joined soon after, initially playing percussion alongside the original drummer Ian Bailey before replacing him. Their self-released debut album Outdebox was released in 1993 and reissued later that year after they signed to Epic Records. The single "Bonecrusher" from this album peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. In 1994, SoulHat released their follow-up studio album Good to Be Gone, along with the EP Too Gone to be Good. Their next full-length album, Experiment on a Flat Plane, was released in 2000. In early 2003, SoulHat won the Austin Regional Poll in The 2nd Annual Independent Music Awards for their song "Flat Feet". Smith died on April 12, 2017.
