Sobek is an iconic Guyanese artist of the SoundCloud generation. He made his debut on YouTube in 2015, under the name Sobek YKS. It was in his middle school that he made his first recording "Homemade" in collaboration with Deejay Enzo.
At the age of 17, Sobek founded the Yenneka Squad collective, with the mission of popularizing Guyanese culture through his music. This collective brings together several local artists, including Dray, J-kobb and Tows, all driven by a common passion for their musical heritage.
His passion for music took root at the conservatory of Guyana, where he explored piano, drums, local percussion's and music theory. This training inspired him to follow his own artistic path, mixing tradition and modernity.
Throughout his career, Sobek has met important figures such as Young Spliff in Guadeloupe, Tota Beatz as well as Original Sol'Jah, HSL BEAT and 6plugurmagic who have enriched his sound universe and allowed him to open up to new perspectives. These collaborations bring him an openness to the world and an immersion with varied influences.
The artist also draws on ancestral spirituality, particularly voodoo, which is reflected in his lyrics. Sobek weaves a deep link between his words and human reality, addressing themes such as his personal history and colonialism. His music transcends eras, oscillating between Chicago drill and Atlanta trap, while integrating the sounds and rhythms of his culture.
