Moshe Atzmon, born on July 30, 1931, in Budapest, was an Israeli conductor. He began his musical education in Budapest, continued it in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and completed his conducting training in London. Atzmon's breakthrough came in 1963 when he received the second prize at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Music Competition in New York. He served as a guest conductor with major philharmonic orchestras in Berlin, Munich, and Vienna. In 1967, he led the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, from 1968 to 1972, he conducted the Basel Symphony Orchestra, and from 1972 to 1976, he was the chief conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Atzmon was chief conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra from 1978 to 1983. Known for his versatility, Atzmon also directed operas, notably serving as General Music Director of the Dortmund Philharmonic from 1991 to 1994.
