Yuri Aleksandrovich Egorov, born on May 28, 1954, in Kazan, Russian Federation, was a Soviet-Dutch pianist. He began his musical education at age six at the Kazan Conservatory and later studied under Irina Dubinina and Yakov Zak. In 1971, Egorov participated in the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris, finishing fourth. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory, winning bronze at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1974. Egorov's career took a significant turn when he decided to go into exile from the Soviet Union due to political discontent and repression of homosexuality, settling in Amsterdam. In 1978, he debuted at Carnegie Hall, with his performance being recorded live. His final public concert took place on November 27, 1987, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He passed away on April 16, 1988, in Amsterdam from complications related to AIDS.
