Berlin Boom Orchestra is a German reggae and ska band formed in Berlin in spring 2006. The group, which includes former members of the band Skaquadrat, gained an early local following performing at the club Kato in Kreuzberg. Its single "Achtung, Achtung!" gained national attention, and on June 5, 2009, the group won first place at the German final of the European Reggae Contest at the club Yaam. In 2010, the band released the album Hin und Weg, which won first prize from the Deutsche Pop Stiftung for Best Reggae Band and Best Reggae Album on December 11, 2010. Its other releases include the albums Kaboom (2008), Kopf, Stein, Pflaster (2015)—featuring guest artists Refpolk and Darlino on the track "Mörder"—and Reggae Punks (2019). The band's lyrics criticized homophobia, sexism, and German and European asylum policy, and the group performed at numerous benefit concerts for refugees.
