Irene Scruggs, born Irene Smith on December 7, 1901, in Lamont, Mississippi, United States, was an American Piedmont blues and country blues singer. She began recording in 1924 for Okeh Records and wrote the songs "Home Town Blues" and "Sorrow Valley Blues", which were recorded by Joe "King" Oliver. Scruggs also recorded with Blind Blake under the pseudonyms Chocolate Brown and Dixie Nolan, and performed with Little Brother Montgomery. Her recording career concluded around 1935, after which she moved to Europe in the 1940s and participated in BBC Radio broadcasts during the 1950s. Scruggs died in Trier, Germany, on July 20, 1981.
