Wangjaesan Light Music Band, a light music group from North Korea, was established on July 22, 1983, by Kim Jong Il. Named after Mount Wangjae in Onsong-gun, the band is one of two popular music groups formed in the 1980s, along with Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble. Their early releases included albums such as Vol. 9: Dance Music 2 and Vol. 8 (제8집): Dance Music 1. The band's music was frequently broadcast on Korean Central Broadcasting Station channels like Radio Pyongyang. In August 2013, reports surfaced that key members of the Wangjaesan Light Music Band had been executed and that the band was disbanded under Kim Jong Un's orders; however, experts expressed skepticism about these claims. Hyon Song-wol, one of the singers reportedly executed, was later shown to be alive. The band reunited in 2015 for concerts, including "Songs Full of Memories" and "Great Party, Rosy Korea." Notable members included singers such as Ryom Chong and Hyon Song-wol.
