Emancer, a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1996 in Luster, Sogn, was founded by guitarist/programmer Ole Hartvigsen and vocalist Kjell J. Heltne. The band evolved from black metal to experimental progressive styles. Their breakthrough came with the debut album Utopian Illusions (2001) released through Extremist Records, followed by The Human Experiment (2003) on Black Owl Records, which introduced industrial elements. In 2004, they released the album Invisible, marking a shift toward progressive and experimental influences, and The Menace Within (2005) continued this trajectory with clean vocals and synthesizers. Their fifth album, Twilight and Randomness (2008), was mastered by Tom Kvlsvoll. In 2010, they embarked on their first European tour, supporting Belphegor and fellow Norwegian band Vreid.
