Hellwitch, a metal band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was founded in October 1984 by guitarist and singer Patrick Ranieri and drummer Harry Tyler. The duo recorded their first demo, Nosferatu, later that year. In February 1985, Dave "Silverthrash" Silverstein joined on drums, followed by bassist Andy Adcock. Their first live performance occurred in July of the same year. Hellwitch shared stages with notable acts such as Corrosion of Conformity and Anthrax. The band's debut studio demo, Transgressive Sentience, was released in January 1986. After lineup changes, Hellwitch signed with Wild Rags Records in October 1989 and released their debut album, Syzygial Miscreancy, in 1990. The band continued to release EPs and albums, including Final Approach (2003) and Omnipotent Convocation (2009), with various lineup changes and label signings. Hellwitch temporarily disbanded after a Halloween show in 1998 but reunited for performances starting in July 2004.
