Smart Went Crazy was an American rock band formed in Washington, D.C., in 1993 by high school students Chad Clark (guitar and vocals), Abram Goodrich (bass), and Hilary Soldati (cello and vocals). The band later added Jeff Boswell (guitar) and Tony Dennison (drums). Smart Went Crazy released their debut EP, Cubbyhole, in 1994 through CozyDisc. They signed with Dischord Records and released their first full-length album, Now We're Even, in 1996. The band embarked on several U.S. tours before releasing Con Art in 1997, which featured Devin Ocampo on drums following Tony Dennison's departure. Con Art was later recognized by Pitchfork as one of the Best Albums of the 1990s. Smart Went Crazy disbanded in 1998 due to internal divisions. Post-breakup, members joined other bands, including Faraquet and Beauty Pill.
