Band of Susans was an American alternative rock band formed in New York City in 1986. The group was founded by guitarist and vocalist Robert Poss and flautist Susan Stenger, who took their name from the trio of Susans in the original lineup. Poss, Stenger, and drummer Ron Spitzer served as the band's core members throughout its duration. Their first release was the EP Blessing and Curse (1987), issued on Poss's Trace Elements label. After signing with Blast First, the group released Hope Against Hope (1988) and Love Agenda (1989), and this earlier lineup also recorded the EP The Peel Sessions (1992). On Restless Records, the band's classic lineup, which included guitarists Anne Husick and Mark Lonergan, recorded the albums The Word and the Flesh (1991), Veil (1993), and Here Comes Success (1995). The band also issued the compilation Wired for Sound (1995) before disbanding in 1996.
