Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, an American instrumental funk rock band from Los Angeles, was formed in 2007 and consisted of Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith, guitarist Jeff Kollman, bassist Kevin Chown, and keyboardist Ed Roth. The band originated when Smith, Kollman, and Roth served as the backup band for Glenn Hughes and began performing impromptu instrumental jams during warm-ups. In 2008, bassist Kevin Chown joined the group. Based in Los Angeles, they regularly performed at Don Randi's jazz club, the Baked Potato. Their debut album Meet the Meatbats was released on October 2, 2009, followed by their second studio album More Meat on October 19, 2010, and Live Meat And Potatoes on May 21, 2012.
