Liquid Liquid, eine minimalistische Funk-Band aus der New Yorker Punk/No Wave-Szene, hat einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen, insbesondere durch den Titel "Cavern", der von Grandmaster & Melle Mel in dem Old-School-Hip-Hop-Klassiker "White Lines" gesampelt wurde. Die 1978 von Salvatore Principato, Richard McGuire, Scott Hartley und Dennis Young gegründete Band nahm 1981 für 99 Records zwei EPs in limitierter Auflage auf, Liquid Liquid und Successive Reflexes, bevor sie 1983 das von Don Hünerberg produzierte Optimo herausbrachte, aus dem der Titel "Cavern" stammt. Obwohl sich Liquid Liquid 1983 trennten, wurden andere ihrer Stücke gesampelt und auf elektronischen Disco-Kompilationen wie Disco Not Disco im Jahr 2008 aufgenommen. Nach der Veröffentlichung der Liquid Liquid Liquid -Compilation mit Live-Aufnahmen im Jahr 1997 beschlossen die Musiker, sich wieder zusammenzutun, und erweiterten ihre Diskografie mit Remixen und neuem Material, das auf Slip In and Out of Phenomenon zusammengestellt wurde, das 2008 unter dem Label Domino erschien. Bei einigen Gelegenheiten trat er auch auf europäischen Bühnen auf, z. B. beim Abschiedskonzert von LCD Soundsystem im Jahr 2011.
