Floating Action is the lo-fi Carolina funk project of American multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Seth Kauffman, based in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Following the dissolution of his Motown-style group The Choosy Beggars in 2005, Kauffman founded the project, writing, recording, and producing almost all of the music. Under his own name, he released the solo albums Ting (2006) and Research (2008), before issuing his self-titled debut album, Floating Action (2009). Subsequent releases include Desert Etiquette (2011), Fake Blood (2012), Body Action (2014), and Outsider Art (2020). As a session musician, Kauffman played guitar on Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence (2014), drums on Tyler Ramsey's The Valley Wind (2011), and performed on Ray LaMontagne's Supernova (2014). He also performed at the South by Southwest festival in 2009 and the Hangout Music Festival in 2017.
