Edith Wiens, a Canadian opera, recital, and concert singer with a soprano voice, was born on June 9, 1950, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She began her musical journey studying theology and church music at Columbia Bible College. At 20, she received a bursary to study singing in Hannover, Germany, followed by training at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music under Richard Miller. Wiens' international career launched in 1980 when the Berlin Philharmonic engaged her for over 30 concerts. She performed extensively with major orchestras worldwide and as a recitalist in venues like Carnegie Hall and Vienna's Musikverein. Wiens won first prize in the Robert Schumann International Competition for Pianists and Singers, second prize at the ARD International Music Competition, and received honorary doctorates from Oberlin College and the University of Regina. In 2000, she was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
