Jan Katzschke is a German harpsichordist, organist, and church musician born on January 31, 1972, in Neustadt am Rübenberge, Germany. After studying at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover from 1991 to 1997, he served as a Kantor in the Erzgebirge, where he initiated the restoration of a historic 1788 Adam-Gottfried-Oehme organ in Zethau. From 1997 to 2002, he worked freelance in Freiberg, conducting the Collegium Musicum of the TU Bergakademie. In 2004, he recorded works by Matthias Weckmann that were released as the solo album Die lieblichen Blicke (2006) on the label cpo, which earned the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik in 2007. Subsequent solo albums on the labels cpo and Querstand include Der Seele Paradies (2010) and Johann Kuhnau's Frische Clavier-Früchte (2013). While serving as Kantor and organist at the Diakonissenhauskirche Dresden from 2005 to 2017, he directed monthly Bach cantatas and founded the Orgel-Winter festival. In 2009, he began teaching organ at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Dresden, with a career that includes work as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor.
