Hermann Bäumer is a German conductor and trombonist. He began playing piano at age six, and later studied cello and trombone. In 1985, he started music education studies in Detmold, majoring in trombone under Martin Borowski. He served as bass trombonist with the Bamberger Symphoniker from 1986 to 1992, and subsequently played with the Berliner Philharmoniker, during which time he studied conducting in Leipzig. His conducting career includes engagements with orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart. His recordings include August Enna's Heiße Liebe (2007) with the NDR Radiophilharmonie and Jón Leifs' Edda I with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He served as Generalmusikdirektor in Osnabrück from 2004 to 2012, became Generalmusikdirektor at the Staatstheater Mainz for the 2011/2012 season, and in 2016 became Conductor in Residence of the Hofer Symphoniker.
