Demilich, a Finnish death metal band, was formed in 1990 by guitarist/vocalist Antti Boman and drummer Mikko Virnes. The group initially created a unique avant-garde sound characterized by technical death metal in A-standard tuning and extremely low-register vocals. Before releasing their debut album Nespithe (1993), Demilich recorded four demo tapes, including Regurgitation of Blood (1991) and The Four Instructive Tales... of Decomposition (1991). Nespithe, featuring intricate death metal riffs and unconventional lyrics written in code, was highlighted by Terrorizer magazine as one of The 40 Albums You Must Hear. The band disbanded shortly after the album's release due to label complications, but reformed in 2005. Their comeback included live performances at festivals like Jalometalli Metal Music Festival and Maryland Deathfest. In 2014, Svart Records released the album 20th Adversary of Emptiness, a compilation containing all their recorded material, including new songs from their brief reunion in 2006.
