Ornatos Violeta is a Portuguese independent rock band from Porto, formed in 1991. The group initially gained recognition by participating in the Concurso de Música Moderna at the Rock Rendez Vous. In 1997, the band released its debut album, Cão, which featured the song “Letra S”, a duo with Manuela Azevedo of Clã. Its second studio album, O Monstro precisa de amigos (1999), included collaborations such as “Ouvi dizer” with Vitor Espadinha and “Capitão romance” with Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes. The group disbanded in 2002, but later returned for live performances, and released the triple-album compilation Inéditos e raridades (2011), which featured previously unreleased tracks.
