99 Posse is an Italian hip-hop and reggae group formed in Naples, Italy, on September 22, 1991. Initially formed by Luca "'o Zulù" Persico, Marco "Kaya Pezz8" Messina, Massimo "JRM" Jovine, and Papa J, the group emerged from the city's self-managed social centers, channeling local protest and political activism into music. The band's first EP, Rafaniello (1992), was followed by the debut studio album Curre curre guaglió (1993), which earned the Targa Tenco award for best dialect work of the year. Drummer Claudio "Clark Kent" Marino joined the lineup in 1995, followed by keyboardist Sacha Ricci and singer Maria Di Donna, known as Meg, in 1996. Subsequent releases include Guai a chi ci tocca (1995), Cerco tiempo (1996)—which sold over 80,000 copies and earned a gold disc—and Corto circuito (1998), which reached sales of 160,000 copies. After releasing La vida que vendrà (2000) and the compilation album NA9910º (2001), the members took different paths and officially announced their split on January 4, 2005. 99 Posse resumed activity in 2009 without Meg, releasing Cattivi guagliuni (2011), Curre curre guaglió 2.0 (2014), and Il tempo. Le parole. Il suono (2016).
