Matt Deighton is a British singer, guitarist and songwriter born in 1965, who established himself in the 1990s as leader of the acid-jazz band Mother Earth, with whom he released several albums, including Stoned Woman in 1992 and The People Tree in 1993. After the group split up, he embarked on a solo career, marked by the 1995 album The Villager, often compared to the great British folk names of the 1970s. He went on to release several solo albums, including You Are the Healer (2000), The Common Good (2001) and Wake Up the Moths (2005), confirming his intimate, melodic style. At the same time, he collaborated with a number of artists, including Paul Weller, with whom he toured regularly, and Oasis, whom he briefly joined as touring guitarist, replacing Noel Gallagher in 2000. He recorded further solo albums including Kids Steal Feelings (2017), Doubtless Dauntless (2018) and Today Become Forever (2023), then collaborated with Dr. Robert (Blow Monkeys) on The Instant Garden (2025). Less publicized than some of his contemporaries, he remains a respected figure on the British folk-rock scene, rediscovered over time by new generations of listeners.
