U.S. Royalty was a Washington, D.C.–based indie rock group formed in 2008, featuring vocalist John Thornley, guitarist Paul Thornley, bassist Jacob Michael, and drummer Luke Adams. The band emerged from earlier local acts and rehearsed in a pink trailer in Southern Maryland before releasing the EP Midsommar in 2009. Their debut album Mirrors was self‑released in 2011, followed by a tour that included CMJ and SXSW and an opening slot for Third Eye Blind. In 2014, the group issued Blue Sunshine. The group announced its dissolution in June 2017, with the Thornley brothers going on to form Born Rivals and Jacob Michael pursuing his Foreign Air project.
