Barren Earth, a Finnish metal band from Helsinki, was formed in 2007. The group's initial steps included releasing their debut EP Our Twilight in 2009 and performing their first gig at Dante's Highlight club shortly thereafter. In 2010, Barren Earth issued their debut album Curse of the Red River, which received positive reviews and earned them Best Debut Album at the Metal Storm Awards in 2010 and Newcomer of the Year at the Finnish Metal Awards in 2011 and ". The band's second album, The Devil's Resolve, was released in 2012s. In 2015, Barren Earth launched their third album On Lonely Towers, featuring new vocalist Jón Aldará. Their fourth album, A Complex of Cages, was released in 2018 and marked the first record without keyboardist Kasper Mårtenson, who was succeeded by Antti Myllynen.
