I Was a King is a Norwegian rock band formed in Egersund in 2005. They released their debut EP Losing Something Good For Something Better in 2007 and gained significant attention with their self-titled album in 2009, featuring guest musician Sufjan Stevens. The band continued to release albums including Old Friends (2010), which earned them a nomination for the Spellemannprisen in the pop group category, and You Love It Here (2012). The album cover design for Isle of Yours (2014) notably received recognition at the Visuelt Awards and European Design Awards. Their subsequent album, Grand Hotel, was released in 2020, followed by Follow Me Home in 2022. In 2025, they released Best Wishes - A Shortcut to I Was a King.
