The Heart Throbs, an English indie rock band formed in 1986 in Reading, England. The initial lineup included Rose Carlotti, Stephen Ward, Rachel DeFreitas, and Mark Side. Their single "Toy" was released in 1987 on Marc Riley's In-Tape label. After signing with Rough Trade, they released two successful singles on the UK Independent Chart, such as "Bang" (1987) and "Too Many Shadows" (1988). The band then moved to One Little Indian Records, where guitarist Alan Borgia joined, allowing Ward to switch to keyboards. Their debut album Cleopatra Grip (1990) was distributed in the US by Elektra Records. Notable singles include "Dreamtime", which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1990, and "She's in a Trance", reaching number 21. Subsequent albums included Jubilee Twist (1992), released by A&M Records in the US, and Vertical Smile (1993). The band underwent several lineup changes before disbanding in 1993.
