Pomerium, an American early music choral group, was founded in 1972 at the University of Notre Dame by Alexander Blachly. The ensemble initially consisted of 14 to 16 voices performing a cappella and was created to interpret music composed for the famous Renaissance chapels. Their debut album as Pomerium Musices, Missa Ecce Ancilla Domini / Motets & Chansons, was released in 1979. In 1993, the group shortened its name to Pomerium. Notable releases include In Hydraulis & Other Works (1993) and Mass (1996). Pomerium received a Diapason d'Or for their album "The Virgin & the Temple" in 1997 and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999 for Creator of the Stars, later reissued as An Old-World Christmas. The group regularly performed at venues such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cloisters, and the Pierpont Morgan Library.
